Prologue
The following is an excerpt from “The Life and Times of Charles Everett Beasley” by Pulitzer Prize winning author Carl Aarons
“We were sitting on the veranda in the deep wicker chairs, gently rocking, sipping cold beer. I had just finished organizing the day’s notes when Charlie looked up and said, ‘s’pose I had never been born Carl.”
“What? Damn Charlie, you made me spill some beer.”
“Sorry, but I’ve been thinking about it.”
“That is a loaded question my friend. Let me ponder it for a moment.”
I took another sip, looked across at Charlie and asked, “are we talking about events and circumstances that influence our future?”
“Something like that, I s’pose.”
“In that case I suppose we wouldn’t be sitting here drinking your beer and enjoying the Ruth’s garden. Look Charlie it’s been a long day. My note cards are full of stories about your life. I almost spilled beer on them. Please let’s just relax.”
“I can’t let it go Carl. Just think, if the Beasleqs had not decided to leave Lancashire when they did, there would have been no birth in America of my ancestors going back four generations. It was that last night in their marriage bed that William and Beth Beasleq conceived a male who became the first Beasleq to be born on these shores.”
“So what you are saying is that you are the result of unexpected or unanticipated consequences. Right?”
“I guess.”
“Charlie, let’s take it one step further. If there hadn’t been an American Civil War there would not have been the Great Cotton Famine in England. There would have been no reason for the Beasleqs to settle in America or even change their name to Beasley. In that case your ancestors would never have emigrated.
“They would never have met the Warwicks or the Sugarmans. And you my dear friend would never have been here to help change the face of this poor troubled planet. C’mon Charlie you’re playing the ‘What If’ game. We could go to the beginning of everything for that matter. Why not start with the amoebas crawling out of the sea. Or better yet, the Firmament.”
“I know you’re fooling with me Carl. I s’pose your right, but don’t forget Carl, you would not be the recipient of The Pulitzer.”
“On that, I think I will have another beer.”

“Shoot for the Moon”…the author succeeded to draw the reader immediately into his novel. The story’s focus of an immigrant family coming to America is well told. I cried for Isaac, the tailor…I rooted for Charlie. The writers’ portrayal of several characters intensifies the story. Life’s challenges are mastered with sheer determination and perseverance to follow the family’s mantra: to ‘shoot for the moon.’ The story flows easily throughout generations of the Beasley’s, an American success story; a dream of riches and love for this country. “Shoot for the Moon.”Product details

Shoot for the Moon a Novel The Charles Beasley Story edition by Warren Lee Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed enormously reading it. It is written in souch a way you can not put it down. Thumbs up!!!
Outstanding book, Could not put book down
a real thriller and well written book..
This is a well told tale of generations of Beasleys. The author spins their stories and the history of the time they lived. Strangers become people we feel we know—people we like. By the time I finished reading their tale, I knew I’d enjoy sharing a meal with all the Beasleys, their relatives and friends. They are now part of my fiction family. Like the Beasleys, I too will persevere and shoot for the moon.
